Bridget Jones 3 Coming...

Seven years ago British cinema was given a huge boost by the release of ‘Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason’, the second film in the series.  Since the idea of a third being made has been discussed and played with but has never been confirmed.

This week, however, it was announced that ‘Bridget Jones 3’ has been given the go ahead and will start production later this year.

Actress Renée Zellweger has been the first of the original cast to sign up to reprise the role of her leading character, Bridget.

As well as this Hugh Grant and the recent Oscar winner Colin Firth have both agreed to return as the roles of Bridget’s former flame and long-term partner, although neither have actually signed yet.

There are supposed to be a number of changes in this film from the previous two.  The most obvious is that for the other two films, slim actress Zellweger was asked to gain a sufficient amount of weight to fit in with her character profile, a chubby, 30-something year old who is desperate to fall in love.

However, for this film Zellweger asked the production team if they could film without her gaining weight and after discussions they agreed.  This means that her character’s biggest drawback, which is often talked about and pointed out during the films, may not be such an issue this time around.

Producers have stated that numerous plotlines have been talked about and they want to include a huge plot twist in the film.  An idea that has been considered is a pregnancy with an unknown father.

The producers have also stated that they wish to explore the relationship Bridget and Mark have, a true example of when opposites attract.  They want to open up the profiles of characters that have been in the other films but not looked at in any depth.

After the success of the first two films, it can be expected that the third will be as funny and Bridget can still capture the hearts of the views whilst trying to find her true love, as she has in the first films.
